Commentary on the film

In Dots, Norman McLaren draws directly on the film strip, creating both the images and the optical soundtrack, without using a camera or a recording device. Red and blue dance to the rhythm of music that is also entirely hand-painted, a wonderful way to explore the link between sound and image with children.
