Commentary on the film: In a Heartbeat

A very amusing figure of speech to address a complex theme: homosexuality at school. The personification of love by a heart which itself makes the decision to declare its love perfectly expresses confusion but also apprehension and shyness in the face of our true feelings. Prince Charming for a little girl? Children's stories told at home or in the classroom rarely consider possibilities other than heterosexuality; the film raises the question of the age at which a child can become aware of his homosexuality and allows, without necessarily talking about sexuality, to diversify the models offered to students. An invitation to tolerance and respect to make it clear that each child is unique and that it is often painful to understand one's own feelings and to accept oneself beyond the gaze of others. Talking about homosexuality in primary school Should we talk to young children about homosexuality? Opinions are divided and homophobia, certainly more than racism or sexism, is a complex subject. Some students are victims of harassment or have questions about sexual orientation and we are sometimes unable to talk about it; cinema and animated images sometimes make it possible to evoke messages in an indirect and entertaining way and to make young audiences aware of subjects that are difficult to discuss in class with students.
