Commentary: Le complexe du hérisson
A very beautiful short film to learn to live together and not make fun of others.
A message of hope for children looking for a soul mate.
Rejection, withdrawal, lack of self-confidence, the tribulations of a young hedgehog woman.
Hedgehogs are known to be timid animals and the short film is also an opportunity to talk with children about the most fearful animals or, on the contrary, the most courageous and daring.
Questions about the film: Le complexe du hérisson
Understand the story and themes, express your feelings and develop critical thinking.
1What happens at the start of the film?
A little girl is teased by her classmates.
2Who is the character we see in the following scenes?
She is the little girl from the beginning of the film who has grown up and is now a young woman.
3What do you notice in the different scenes from the young woman's life (from 22 s to 1 min 12 s)?
We feel that the young woman doesn't really feel sure of herself, she is really very shy.
4Do you make a connection between the scene at the beginning when the young woman was a child and her behavior in her adult life?
The staging encourages us to associate the young woman's lack of self-confidence with the mockery she suffered when she was younger.
5In image 1 min 21 s, a little girl has fun scaring the young woman. What happens then?
This throws the young woman several years back and reminds her of the multiple bullying she was subjected to; she then rolls up into a ball and falls into a bush where she finds a young man who seems to resemble her. Perhaps the start of a beautiful love story?
6What do you think about making fun of others? Why can this be very serious?
Open response/debate.
