Commentary: Travelling Through Brush...
“Journey through brush and ink” is a stop-motion animation to discover traditional Chinese painting and the important stages of landscape art among Chinese landscape painters.
Traditional Chinese art revisited
Like the paintings of the painter Fan Kuan (950-1031), the film is an invitation to blend into nature.
Follow the blue bird and let yourself be guided through the magnificent landscapes of the film.
The animated short film revisits the different representations of nature in the history of traditional Chinese painting based on four ancient paintings:
"Emperor minghuang's journey to shu", anonymous (Tang dynasty 618-907)
"Travelers among mountains and streams", Fan Kuan (Song dynasty 950-1031)
"Ancient Temple in a Mountain Pass", Jia Shigu (Song dynasty 1131-1162)
"Autumn colors on the ch'iao and hua mountains", Chao Meng-fu (Yuan dynasty 1254-1322)
The paintings are part of the collection of the National Palace Museum in Taiwan; the animated film was created for the opening of the 2016 annual exhibition and the museum has created other animations to showcase its collection.
