Understand a story.

This very short film offers us an unexpected and very funny ending. First, ask the children to watch the film several times, stopping at well-chosen moments, asking them each time what they understood and asking them to invent the sequel. Secondly, they will be able to write the story by dictation to the adult.

For the first viewing, we can make a first stop at second 13. Ask the children what they saw and heard: a duck is in the pond, he hears another duck but we cannot see it. What will happen? Let the children hypothesize about the rest of the story.

Then continue watching until second 27. Ask where the duck that you heard at the beginning went. Let them respond and then tell them about the call (the hunter used an instrument that imitates the sound of the duck, he wanted to attract it to kill it). What does the hunter do? He wants to kill the duck! Why does he want to kill him? Does he get there? No ! In your opinion why? What will happen next? Let the children give their opinion... Then give them a hint: point out that the ball makes a funny noise (a metallic sound)... Video presentation of calls that imitate birds...

Continue watching until the end. Compare with the children's hypotheses. Ask what they understood. Give the necessary explanations to clear up any misunderstandings. The hunter wanted to play a trick on the duck with his call, but it was the ducks who played a trick on the hunter! This ending recalls the moral of the fable “The Rat and the Oyster”: “He who thinks he catches is caught.” » Book VIII of La Fontaine's Fables (1678)

Then offer other viewings to the children, for the pleasure of seeing the entire film and so that they can immerse themselves in the story. Suggest writing the story by dictation to the adult with the help of the film.
