Educational activities

Talk about failure with students.

In this video we particularly follow the character of the little girl who absolutely wants to participate in the grand prize. She arrives with a car that is not authorized, she is very disappointed. One of the participants falls under her spell and decides to help her. He invites her to his vehicle so that she can participate with him. Unfortunately, when leaving, the car does not start. It seems that the young girl is too heavy, the driver cannot move forward! She gets out of the vehicle, constrained and forced, the young man advances but the little girl, angry, pushes him and he lands on the wall! Finally all is forgiven and they go for a walk together again.

This story is an opportunity to talk about failure with students. The characters failed and didn't win the race, but did they lose everything? Didn't they gain something else in exchange? (A beautiful friendship!). What is failure? How do we feel when we fail? Is there only negative? Can we always win and succeed in what we do? Without failure, would success have the same flavor? Ultimately, isn't failure a way to bounce back better and succeed later?

We will let the students express themselves on this subject, exchange ideas with each other, argue, and if necessary restart the debate with questions. There is no right or wrong answer but the conclusion could be the following: failure hurts, we feel bad when we fail, but it can serve as an experience. We can draw a parallel with errors in school work. It's never pleasant to make mistakes, but it's a necessity, you can't know everything, you're at school to learn, and you can learn from your mistakes.

Extensions

  • Make posters with small slogans on the status of the error or failure. Examples: “It doesn’t matter if I fail, I can learn from my mistakes.” These kind messages can be displayed in class to remind everyone that we have the right to make mistakes!
  • Discover on the “Unsatisfying” platform, a film about dissatisfaction.
