Understand and express yourself orally: greet.
In this activity, we are interested in the discussion between the characters by studying the texts present in the bubbles at 1 min 27 s. Throughout the video, the main character uses "Hi!" » to get in touch with the other characters. At the end, a panel of bubbles is presented to say "hello" in various languages. By carrying out research, students may find these different languages and practice recognizing and reproducing them.
To become familiar with foreign languages, develop the culture of modern languages and openness to the world, we can offer students a discovery of the different ways of greeting each other around the world.
First, students will watch the entire video and express themselves freely on the content. On the second viewing, they will be asked to concentrate on the interactions between the characters and their exchanges. To discover different languages and alphabets, view the screenshot at 1’27 showing the “hello” bubbles in different languages.
Ask students about their knowledge of other languages. Ask them if they recognize any words? Letters? What could be the meaning of the words presented? Explain to them that each bubble is made up of the same message: have them find out what this message is. -> “hello” Ask: “Have you ever heard the word “hello” in other languages? If yes, in what situations? »
