Recognize and name the geometric shapes present in the video; then, reproduce these shapes in a plastic production which will represent a spatial universe.
In this film, we can see many geometric shapes. This will be an opportunity to scout with the children, name and describe them, then reproduce them as part of a visual arts production.
Show the video to the children. Have a discussion after this first viewing and ask them what they understood about the story.
After this understanding work, offer the students a second viewing with a task to carry out: locate and name the geometric shapes present in the video.
Figures: circles or discs (top of the birthday cake, clock, moon, sewing machine wheel, gas stove buttons), five or six-pointed stars, diamond (on the door, on the wall in the kitchen area), triangles (pennants), rectangles (calendar, paintings, building windows, workshop gate)...
Solids: cones (birthday hats), paving stones (cardboards in dad's workshop, books, steps of the staircase), spheres (lanterns in front of the workshop gate, the planets, the earth, astronaut helmet), half sphere (light fixture), cylinders (the cake, the university building)...
Depending on the skills we want to work on, we will focus on plane figures, or solids, or both (with a sorting activity). In the same way, we can ask students to list and name the shapes present in the class. If possible, offer them manipulative materials so that it is more concrete for them. The shapes thus studied can be reproduced in a visual art project: representing a spatial universe.
