Discover the richness of flora and animal species.
Like the CPIE, create a small ecosystem with the children by keeping a grassy area for an entire growing season without human intervention and discover the flora and animal species that will have developed naturally.
Understand that each plant or animal species has its importance and discover the beauty of everyday life, the small plants that are often called weeds and which will themselves create a new biotope conducive to the arrival of animal species.
Undertake the construction of a garden plot inside or outside the school. Why not involve the children from the first steps, starting with the choice of location and then administrative authorizations (school, town hall, etc.). Together imagine a sign which will inform that this space is the subject of an experiment and that it must be preserved from any human intervention.
Every week, observe and note the evolution of the garden plot, the appearance of new plant or animal species. Compare with the neighboring space which, although identical at the start, will certainly end up very different.
Preserving biodiversity requires better knowledge of the geographical distribution of species and children's observations will be valuable! This experience will be an opportunity to address ecological issues and raise children's awareness of the risks of human intervention.
Differentiating between butterflies will particularly amuse children. Discover the butterfly identification tools created by the Noah, association whose mission is to safeguard biodiversity in France and internationally.
