Lost and Found

“Lost and Found” is Jeff Scher’s animated declaration of love to his favorite early animators. The somewhat perverse idea of ​​rotoscoping allowed him to rediscover the pleasure of drawing, as if he were drawing with the hands of the great masters of the beginnings of animation. His hand and his mind have learned a lot. In this type of animation, there is an exhilarating joy in knowing that any element on screen can, literally, come to life and join in the general chaos. Unlike most current animated feature films, which seek to make the fantastic credible, these animations on the contrary celebrate the incredible nature of the worlds they draw, giving birth to a kind of vaudeville surrealism. This film is made up of more than 2,000 watercolor paintings and drawings, in a style that Jeff Scher calls “psychadelichrome”, where the colors vary in a completely unbridled way.
