Commentary: Migrants
A short film, which couldn't be more topical, on global warming but also on climate refugees.
Temperatures are rising particularly with carbon dioxide emissions released into the atmosphere, linked to the burning of coal, oil and gas and the transformation of forests into pastures.
Many scientists believe that several points of no return, such as the subglacial basins of East Antarctica, have already been reached and that the impact of global warming is such that its consequences for life on Earth on a global scale are certainly irreversible.
Climate refugees (or ecological refugees) are people forced to leave their region of origin due to the consequences of global warming such as rising sea levels and desertification.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the climate emergency constitutes the major crisis of our time and the displacement of populations is one of the most devastating consequences, with entire populations already suffering the consequences.
With 250 million climate refugees worldwide, climate change creates more refugees than conflicts and wars.
Note that population movements are not directly linked to global warming, but to weather events and natural disasters linked to global warming.e, like water shortages.
