Commentary: Les petites choses de la vie
A tender and delicate film. An invitation to take the time to look at and appreciate the poetry of everyday life that sometimes escapes us out of habit, the little things in life.
A parable of mourning
The short film can also be interpreted as a parable of the mourning of a child.
The poetic image of the little boy who flies away with the birds then disappears, the parents' concern then the hope of finding the child, evoked by the chase with a bird, can be an opportunity to explain to children the principle of figures of speech such as allegory or more simply comparison.
Difficult exercise, but why not ask children to personify an abstract notion, difficult to express in words, such as time, friendship, joy using concrete things like animals.
Like children's drawings, the deliberate simplicity of the cut-out paper characters and watercolor decorations will certainly invite children to imagine characters and invent their own story.
