Commentary on the film

A cute and entertaining cartoon. Humor and action. The story features adorable stuffed animals hanging from a mobile. Let yourself be carried away by the rhythm and dynamism of the animation. The short film “Mobile” was selected for the Takorama 2023 festival organized by the Films pour enfants association.

Questions about the film

1-What is the name of the object the animals hang from?
It's a motive. A mobile is an animated object that moves in response to wind or touch.
2-Have you ever seen mobiles? What are mobiles used for?
A mobile is a form of sculptural art of which the artist Alexander Calder is considered one of the pioneers.
But mobiles are also very present in children's rooms. Hanging above the bed or crib, they stimulate babies' visual and auditory senses and provide soothing movements.
The mobile in the film looks like a child's fabric mobile.
3-What are the mobile animals?
In order of appearance, the mobile is composed of two pink sheep, a blue dog, three orange chickens, a green pig, a yellow mouse and a multi-colored cow.
4-What is special about this mobile?
It is in balance thanks to its asymmetry. The cow is alone on one side facing the other animals on the other side.
5-What does the cow feel at the beginning of the film?
She is sad and feels alone.
6-How do other animals react to the cow's feeling?
The other animals don't seem to be interested in the cow. Only a mouse seems to want to play with the cow.
7-What does the cow do when the mouse beckons to it?
She takes her momentum as if to reach the mouse.
8-What will happen then?
The movement of the cow unbalances the mobile which begins to move.
After a frenetic movement that never seems to stop, the mobile finds a balance, but the animals are still separated, the cow on top and the other animals at the bottom.
The cow does not lose hope of joining the mouse: she throws herself into the void and breaks the mobile's fixings.
The animals fly in all directions and it feels like the animals will never be together again.
At the last moment, the mouse manages to connect its thread to that of the cow, as if by miracle, the mobile recomposes itself in a balance and a symmetrical configuration which better suits the protagonists: the cow and the mouse finally reunited in the center of the mobile, the dog and the chickens on the left, the pig and the sheep on the right.

- Present a sculpture by Alexander Calder
Alexander Calder is an American artist, known for his mobile sculptures and considered one of the founders of abstract art.
“Crinkly with Red Disc” is a sculpture that Alexander Calder created in Stuttgart in 1973.
Simple red and yellow shapes are used to create a dynamic composition.
Alexander Calder's moving sculptures are considered masterpieces of modern art and are appreciated for their formal simplicity, their inventive use of color and movement, and their interaction with the environment.
They are often driven by spring mechanisms and swing systems.
- Create a mobile
Like the mobile in the short film, create animal mobiles.
Fabric? Origami paper?

2- Living world

- Farm animals
The animals featured in the film, with the exception of the mouse, are farm animals.
It was during the Neolithic period and the settlement that the first farms were created.
A farm animal is a wild animal that has been domesticated for its work, like the horse, for its milk or meat, like the cow, or for its eggs, like the chicken.
Do you know any other farm animals?
Chickens, ducks, turkeys, guinea fowl, geese, goats, rabbits, horses, donkeys…
