In China, the War of the Eight Princes (291–306) plunged the Jin dynasty into civil war. In Europe, Charlemagne's grandsons fought over his inheritance, until the Empire was divided in 843. In the Ottoman Empire, Murad I had his two half-brothers executed in 1362, while in Korea, the struggles between the princes of Joseon, in 1398 and 1400, pitted the sons of the founder of the dynasty against each other. After Timur's death in 1405, his descendants fought over control of his empire. In England, Mathilde and Stephen competed for the crown from 1135. In Mughal India, Aurangzeb faced his brother Dara Shikoh for the throne and had him executed in 1659.
